flyer about the German *Disability Equality Act (BGG) from “informelle gruppe Fight Ableism” , English Version in Text and Audio
The political situation is escalating. The planned reform of the Disability Equality Act (BGG) is a step backward. It does not align with our fundamental rights nor does it prioritize our participation in social life. Instead, it is solely guided by capitalist principles that prioritize “economic efficiency” over accessibility and human well-being. Linking human rights to the supposed “performance capacity” of a person—especially in the German context—is a scandal. Once again, it becomes clear that, as in so many instances in German history, our lives are considered less valuable. Discrimination remains unpunished, even legalized.
We need radical protest!
- Further set backs are on the horizon, including:
- Cuts to integration assistance,
- Pressure on inclusive education, and
- Restrictions on support services.
For many disabled people, this means: isolation, less self-determination, more barriers, and an enormous additional burden. The personal budget for personal assistance—and with it, our right to self-determination—is at risk. This budget enables many people to live independently in their own homes. We do not want to be locked away in institutions. We demand selfdetermination!
It is important to note that even in its best form, the BGG remains a law within a system that produces inequality. A system that abandons people to despair, death, and war, locking them in camps and prisons. A system that wages and conducts wars. A system that still supplies weapons, for example, to Israel, depriving Palestinians with disabilities of their freedom of movement for decades and often denying them access to assistive devices, electricity, and technologies essential for communication or leaving their homes. We stand in solidarity with disabled people worldwide and oppose the inhumane policies of late-stage capitalism, which assigns different values to lives. Radical inclusion can only succeed in a society liberated from capitalism!
Our demands: –
- People are not a cost factor. We have fundamental rights! –
- Participation is a human right, not a “nice-to-have”!
- Accessibility now! Mandatory and not deferred! –
- No prioritization of economic interests at the expense of people! –
- A special fund for social welfare, not for the military!
- Mandatory accessibility in the private sector—architecturally, digitally, and communicatively!
- Equal access to education for all! No special schools! –
- No cuts to integration assistance! For example, not in school assistance.
- No pooling of resources! Self-determination for all!
- No segregated environments, as they always lead to violence—such as in institutions and workshops.
- No exclusion, no cuts at the expense of people!
- For a self-determined life!
